Macallan 40 Year Old G&M

This Macallan 40 year old was bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in the late 1970s and distributed in Italy around that time. 

Italy was the world’s biggest importer of single malts during the 1970s and 1980s so rare bottles like this found today do often exhibit some historical Italian features.

On close inspection of the back label we find the name Co. IMPORT PINEROLO - the name of the Macallan importer in Italy at that time.

A simple calculation going back 40 years from 1979 would point towards this being a good example of Macallan produced pre-World War Two.
