1980 Yamazaki Vintage Malt (bottled 2004)
Tasting notes from Whisky Magazine.
Nose: Sweet slightly peppery oak, rock candy, cocoa. Has age. Lightly oily with scented wood and plenty of sweet-hearted spirit to balance. Tickle of smoke.
Palate: Meaty, charred wood. Musky and intriguing. Deep sweet black fruits with a touch of liquorice bed it down in the middle of the tongue. Good length.
Finish: Mixing fragrance, light smoke and deep oak.
Overall: Big but balanced. Shows complexity.
The Yamazaki Vintage Malt was a short lived series of high strength vintage Yamazaki distilled between 1979-1995 that originally hit the market in the mid-2000s. This 1980 was matured in a sherry butt and is presented in excellent condition for its age.
