Color: Amber

Nose: Rich and elegant top note, custard cream, cinnamon

Palate: Gentle on the tongue, aromatic and round with spiced sweet notes

Finish: Distinctive deep woody notes reminiscent of Japanese incense

Tsukuriwake means 'artisanship through a diversity of making'. Japanese Mizunara oak is a challenging material to work with, being both expensive to procure and difficult to engineer into barrels. Trees need to be about 200 years old before they can be cut down and the barrels have a tendency to leak once made.

Nevertheless, the distillery perseveres with maturing small quantities of their whisky in Mizunara oak since the flavours and textures that result are profound and intriguing.

Mizunara is often referred to as Yamazaki's not-so-secret-ingredient.
